a couple little French restaurants

So we are actually in London now, but I couldn't really access my photos from my phone to post earlier.  So I am going to post about our first dinner & second lunch in Paris.

On our first day while we were waiting for our room, and after we got into our room, we were going over yelp, trip advisor, eater.... google, looking for a place for dinner.  I know, we were in Paris and we couldn't find a place to eat?  Stupid, right?  We wanted something low key and.... French.  So we finally settled on a place that we thought was not too far from the restaurant.  So, we finally picked a place called Le Potager du Père Thierry.  Sounded pretty French....

It was 2.4 km away, which was supposed to be about a 28 minute walk.  I don't know how long it actually took, with me holding the iPhone out and using google maps.... but it felt like an hour.  Google maps didn't show me the topography.  We picked a restaurant that was pretty much uphill all the way.  When we got there... we were hot.  All the Frenchies all day were saying how hot it was.  We thought, it's not that hot for us.  After that walk.... yes it was hot.  We showed up in the doorway of this tiny leetle restaurant with about 26 seats crammed in where everyone would be sitting elbow to elbow, and we must have looked crazy.  We took the table at the back of the room with the least airflow.  TFP looked like he was going to pass out.   I wondered how we were going to eat heavy French food. Once we settled in and the sun hid behind cloud cover it wasn't as bad.
Here was the menu for the day.  Paris is pretty English speaking friendly.  We were given an English menu.

Funnily enough, there were 10 customers in the place total.  1 was French, everyone else was from the US or Canada.  But, no, we didn't find out from chatting with anyone - it was just so small you could hear everyone's conversations.

This was the best thing that night.  Foie gras and egg.  It was soft, custardy, creamy.  And the country bread was really good too.  So good.

For entrees we got the curry shrimp and the lamb.  I think the description just said "lamb".  They both came with salad and rice.  The shrimp were good, the sauce was not anything special but we were hungry we ate everything.  The lamb was ok, comforting, but once again nothing to write a long blog about or anything.   Anyway, it was a pleasant enough time... And it was our first excursion out of the hotel in Paris.  Oh, and the walk back was all downhill, which was great.

The next day we went to a museum called Atelier Des Lumieres.  There was an "interactive" Viennese painter exhibit we went to see.  It was amazing.  But, I will probably post about that on Unnecessary Supplement  as I'm trying to keep my posts shorter than before, lol.   After that we were hungry & ready for lunch.  We found a restaurant on Eater which looked good.  It was called Le Baratin... the place where chefs eat, including Tony Bourdain.  The menu is also a daily menu with organ meats and stuff.

So, we walked, and we walked uphill.  And it was hot.  And we were dehydrated, again.  Those of you who know my water intake, let me tell you, I drank a lot of water, but my pee was still yellow the first couple of days.

We were there for lunch, and we figured the lunch menu is probably lighter than the dinner menu... because they are probably prepping for dinner.  So, we ordered.

Pork terrine - a little too cold - it was very firm & lots of aspic.  Beet salad was nice.  TFP remarked how the beets were earthier and less sweet that what we are used to.

Braised beef.  It was.... beefy.  Like a pot roast one's mom or grandma would make.  Braised or more like steamed chicken.  Really just chicken with no color, could have been cooked a little longer.  The side veggies of zucchini and potatoes were good though.

And I realize I didn't take a photo of the highlight!  Dessert.  A rhubarb cake that was moist
and custardy.  And TFP's cheese.  It was something like Morbier maybe (no we didn't ask) nice & soft and stinky.  Lol.  TFP had stinky cheese.

On the walk back we passed a pest control shop.  It reminded me of the movie Ratatouille.  The shop had taxidermy of rodents.  It made me feel weird.  But here's some photos.
