So, our last day in Paris, we went to the Picasso museum. I'm not going to bore you with too many subpar photos of his work... but here's a couple.
This one is by Equipo Crónica titled La Visita
After that, we decided to walk along the Seine River to the Eiffel Tower. We watched these guys put this kayak in the river. And we waited, and waited for them to untie the line. But they were just filming a video that made it look like the guy was kayaking down the Seine. I guess that was safer and less gross....
We never went to a cafe and sat and had good coffee and pastries. This is the cappuccino I had at a cafe near the Eiffel Tower. It wasn't great, but I was sitting at a cafe in Paris and sipping coffee.
Here's the view from the cafe
We had seen rotisserie chickens dripping over potatoes all over the place. So we decided on this day that we wanted some of this chicken. Of course, we were in the wrong area for it. We walked for about 2 hours looking for a place that had it. When we were close to the Eiffel Tower, we found the chicken but no potatoes. It was slightly warmer than room temperature.... but still pretty damn tasty.
Is it kind of weird to serve a cooked chicken so close to the chicken's friends and relatives?
For dinner that night we wanted to go somewhere nearby. We didn't feel like walking far or sitting in traffic either. So we found a place (from yelp of course) called Istr. It was a modern oyster bar/seafood restaurant.
I am lame, so I got a ginger beer. This one was good, but not as good as Fever Tree ginger beer that seems to be way more prevalent.
We got whelks again. These were a little chewy, and the flavor just wasn't as good as the whelks we had at Clamato.
This was the best dish. Of course I don't remember everything on it. It had a sous vide egg under all the julienne crispies, pea puree, and anchovy. The trick to eating it was getting a nice spoonful of a little of everything.
The fries were pretty addicting.
This dish was.... interesting. The sea beans were probably the best singular thing of the whole meal. The langoustines were barely seared and pretty raw. They seemed very fresh, but the texture was....raw.
Anyway, it was a nice enough dinner. This was the only place that didn't give us a menu written in English. Which we appreciated.
The next day we took the train to London. The wait to get on the train was a shit show. It was so busy and disorganized. We didn't understand where we were supposed to wait, and a little before our train was supposed to depart, we were told our train was delayed. It ended up being delayed about an hour and a half. At least once we got on the train it was nice and spacious and quiet. We got lunch, which was choice of an anemic salmon filet or quiche. We both got the quiche. Which was a good choice because it was so light and custardy. And the little veggie wheat berry salad was good too. The chocolate mousse was a large disappointing portion. So, technically this was our last meal in France. Not bad. On to jolly old London!
