So, if there's anyone reading this that doesn't know us (that would be a surprise), my husband (I'll call him the food pimp) and I have a band called 'perfect blue'. So we played the San Diego Pride Festival on Saturday. It went off okay, even though no one was inside the gates yet when we played. We were exhausted on Sunday, so we decided to take it easy and cook and watch TV.
We went to Pancho Villa's at about 11am. It's a Mexican grocery store here in San Diego that is dirt cheap compared to other stores - and the quality of the produce is usually way better. So we found a nice pork roast. It was $7 for a 5 pounder. From there we decided to go Mexican/Caribbean. So this was our menu for the day - for $36
2 bags of chips and guacamole(6 avocadoes), tomatillo salsa (about 3 quarts) and red salsa (also 3 quarts)
roast pork with cumin, coriander, ground peppers, cardamom, allspice and
ti malice as a condiment (this is similar to escabesche - it's onion, garlic, shallot and all kinds of peppers sauteed with lime juice, delicious!)
So we each had a plate of food every few hours. We ate all the pork, guacamole, red salsa, ti malice, and most of the rice and beans by Monday night. Now I have to figure out what's for dinner tonight. Meanwhile, the food pimp is teaching a cooking class tonite at one of those condo communities - boardwalk favorites. He didn't come up with the menu, but get a load of this; funnel cakes, soft pretzels and corn dogs. No, he's never attempted to make any of these.
So I can't wait to find out how it all turns out.
